Say hello to Bruce Banner, a 2WD Mercedes Sprinter 170 ext. That was the old Bruce; now, he has real 4×4 capabilities with a Dana 60 front and 70 rear. Let’s take a more in-depth look at this family’s customer Mercedes Sprinter dream build.
First — a quick intro to the WeRollWithIt crew:
Kate, Levi, and Jits —Aussie, Alaskan, and doggo. Together, they document their overlanding adventures while living full-time in their self-built 2018 4×4 Mercedes Sprinter 3500.
Custom Mercedes Sprinter 170 Ext
“Bruce Banner” runs 37-inch Falken MTs on Black Rhino Armory rims. The exterior components (Roof Rack, Ladder, Front and Rear Bumpers) are from Backwoods Adventure Mods. The interior buildout was made to specifications by TouRig.
They have 600AH of Victron lithium batteries on board, which charge from the alternator and 375 watts of solar. The van has 40 gallons of water on board, allowing Kate, Levi, and Its to shower and wash dishes inside and clean their gear at the rear of the van.
Bruce is equipped with onboard air, allowing the family to change tire pressure on the trails. They have loads of storage inside the van with extra room in Roam Adventure Co boxes on the roof and in the Backwoods Rear Bumper box. There is plenty of recovery gear, including a 12k lb winch, MaxTrax, HiLift jack, and some gear from Factor55.
In the cabin, they use the Garmin Overlander to follow trails, and they have Scheel-Mann seats to make the journey more comfortable. The van has a kitchen with diesel cooktop; heat and hot water also run on diesel and the rig has a 28-gallon reserve fuel tank to accommodate long drives or long periods of off-grid living. The exterior is scratch proof and dent resistant, thanks to a full body spray by Linex of Clatsop County.
