Theodore Roosevelt said it best when in reference to our Nation’s Public Lands, he stated: “Leave it as it is. You cannot improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children, your children’s children, and for all who come after you, as one of the great sights which every American, if he can travel at all, should see.”
The United States is littered with landscapes rich in biodiversity, geological features, and stunning displays of natural wonder. Team Altra Elite, Hayden Hawks, happens to live near 3 of the most visited National Parks and even holds the fastest known time for the “Trans-Zion” trail. For him, these public lands are an outlet for adventure—worthy of responsible protection—and as runners alike, we are explorers who thrive in the act of moving through a place of solace.
On National Public Lands Day, Altra Running stands by conservation and advocacy groups seeking to keep whole the parks and public spaces as they have existed for decades and encourage outdoor enthusiasts to not only visit these places responsibly but join us in speaking up for their preservation.
