Kayak fishing, especially in the open ocean, presents many dangers that often get overlooked i.e., hook to the face, capsizing, exhaustion from the sun and many others. Surprisingly, encounters with aggressive Giant Hammerhead sharks and kayak anglers are fairly rare… unless you happen to look oddly appetizing in a bright yellow ocean kayak. As experienced kayak angler Mark McCracken discovered first hand, you truly never know when your paddle will go from propulsion device to defense weapon. In this “battle for the paddle” moment, Mark stayed remarkable calm, putting on a clinic for what to do when a Hammerhead decides to show aggression towards your boat.
