The motorcycle industry’s best-kept secret is that it’s gaining more and more women. In 1998, only eight percent of motorcyclists were women, but by 2015, that number almost doubled to 14 percent… and we’re not done adding more. Despite the new popularity for women, brands have notoriously dropped the ball in recognizing that fact.
Biker women are tired of sitting on the back of the bike and are wanting to take control of their own machines. So, to help, here’s a list of the top five motorcycles for female riders.

Honda Shadow Spirit
Honda is historically known for producing well-manufactured automobiles, motorcycles, and other powersports vehicles. Their motorcycles in particular are also often built on a smaller, more controllable frame than other models. Not only is the Shadow Spirit aesthetically pleasing but is also packed with substantial power. This low seat cruiser has often been explained as a stylish, practical, fun, and user-friendly.
Ducati Scrambler
If you’re looking for a more entry-level bike, then the Ducati Scrambler is the one for you. This bike is also perfect for female riders. It’s small, low, and light design allow for easy management and control for riders with a smaller build. Need more incentive? The Scrambler has recently released a refreshed new look for 2019 incorporating a high-tech brake system, hydraulic clutch, and timeless design. This bike offers an attractive and safe option for female riders while reminding you why you began riding in the first place.
Harley Davidson Sportster 883 SuperLow
You don’t think of motorcycles without first thinking of Harley-Davidson. However, Harley is notoriously known for their extra-large hog models and bikes with high chopper handlebars. Neither of these are great options for riders without a long reach. However, Harley noticed the problem and released their Sportster 883 Superlow. This bike is visually appealing and noticeably lower to the ground than other models on the market. With the national average height of a female being 5’4”, it’s important to own a bike that they can easily swing their leg over and hit the open road with confidence.
Kawasaki Ninja 250
If you’re one of the female riders who prefer a sport bike over a cruiser, then the Kawasaki Ninja 250 is just your style. Packed with power and speed, this beast is a best seller among female riders everywhere. Many sport bikes are difficult to control and have a bulkier design, but the Ninja 250 has managed to offer easy handling with a smaller frame without losing its original design beauty. Choosing this bike gives female riders the ability to control their ride while still packing a punch. Oh and riders can experience the thrill of going from 0 to 60 in 5.75 seconds. If that’s not enough of a reason, I don’t know what is.
Indian Scout
Indian is yet another classic name associated with the motorcycle industry. However, the Indian Scout is arguably the most favored model by female riders. This is because the Scout is lower to the ground, offers easy handling, but is also ingrained with the brand identity and classic Indian flair. The Scout’s design is timeless. While interior features and technology continue to improve with each new model, the exterior aesthetic stays the same. With vintage colors and materials used in manufacturing, riders can compare the look of their Scout to one driven by a family member in a different decade.
