The Appenninica: Italy’s First International MTB Stage Race

Italy’s first international MTB stage race has been announced for July 20-27, 2019. The Appenninica MTB Stage Race offers a brand-new course composed of seven stages over 550 km and 20,000 m of elevation gain. It follows the beautiful Alta Via dei Parchi, a trail that zig-zags between the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. The creators of this race include organizers of the MTB World Cup, IMBA Italia, Happy Trail MTB, and staffers from the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin. The two-person team format is a trademark of the world’s most famous MTB stage races and emphasizes fitness and bike handling skills but also sportsmanship and team spirit. Male, female, and mixed-teams will all be allowed, with a special classification and prize for the women’s category. The race will start in Berceto, a small village located on the western side of the mountain range, and ends on the eastern side of the range in Bagno di Romagna.

Appenninica MTB includes seven days of  mountain biking on the Apennines’ undiscovered trails. It will take the riders through breathtaking wilderness, while also showcasing the region’s renowned food and hospitality. Registration begins November 1st, 2018.
