The snow has been falling and the temperatures have been anything but normal. This is Southern California after all and back to back snow days simply don’t occur every year. Over the past week or so our local mountain range received a few feet of that extra fluffy white powder substance that bring so much joy to our faces. Quality snow is rare and when it fall as it did this past week there is no telling of what hoops we will jump through to get a taste of it.
With car loads of families heading up to Big Bear, CA for a similar experience we decided to leave the slope to the crowds and pass on getting caught in the ever frustrating two hour traffic jam on the mountain road. Instead we took to our four wheel drive vehicle and headed off of the beaten path to see just how much snow really fell in the area.
With the truck packed and organized we enjoyed the freedom that only less traveled backroads can provide. Being that it was a bit colder than our typical 72 degree beach day we had to bring only a few items that were needed for a fun day in the snow. We could go one for hours talking about the typical gear needed for a proper day in the mountains but would rather spare you and highlight one item in particular that truly stood apart from the rest.
The AVEX 3SIXTY Pour Thermal Bottle was recently introduced into a fairly crowded market when looking at travel mugs and thermal bottles. At first glance it looked pretty cool and we thought that if anything it would at lest be cool to carry this into the office everyday. After a day in the snow with the 3SIXTY we can’t speak highly enough about its function and durability.
We poured the coffee from our drip maker at around 6 in the morning where it stood for some time as we loaded the car. An hour or so later we found ourselves at the base of the mountain with nearly 500 other vehicles that hoped to make the trek up the secondary highway in search of snow. Fast forward two hours and we finally arrived at our planned junction where we trekked another 45 minutes to reach a powder covered trail head that had been carved out by some previous off road wanderers. At this point I had ready downed my first two cups of steaming hot coffee. With the temperature dropping below 30 and lunch well behind us it was time to once again hit the caffeine. Only this time was different, we were now a few miles down a road that was so dense with snow and trees that most of the crowds weren’t even a distant noise. The snow falling from the thirty foot trees above were the only sight and sound around. With thanks to our new AVEX thermal bottle the smell of freshly poured, overpriced, organic, small batch roasted, fear trade, low acid coffee was the ONLY thing on our minds.
After numerous hours of sitting and multiple occasions of opening the bottle our coffee was still steaming with heat. The three of us looked at each other dumbfounded with surprise. Whether it’s the stainless outer bottle or the highly efficient screw in lid and cup that also secures as a cap this unit just plain works. As you can see we even placed the bottle in the snow for a photo shoot and still enjoyed its contents afterwards. We are a fairly low maintenance group and don’t ask for much when heading up to the snow. A fresh cup of warm coffee in the peace of the outdoors is one of those things and the AVEX 3SIXTY Pour Thermal Bottle made this a surprising reality.
