The Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational presented by Pacifico returns to Huntington Beach, CA, July 31 – August 1, bringing diverse longboarding talent center stage as they compete for top honors and a $10,000 prize. The longboarding competition featuring expressive style and creativity will take place within the larger Vans US Open of Surfing event, July 25 – August 2.
Directed by eight-time US Open Longboarding Champion Joel Tudor, Vans is thrilled to bring 16 of the world’s best longboarders together for the invite-only contest. Among those competing are previous event champion Troy Mothershead; past Duct Tape winners Justin Quintal, Alex Knost and Tyler Warren; as well as new invitees from around the world, including Australian rider Michael Lay, celebrated Chinese longboarder known as “TZ”, and San Clemente locals Karina Rozunko and Tommy Witt.
As the eleventh event in the Joel Tudor Duct Tape international contest series, the competition represents two-time world longboarding champion Tudor’s vision of leading an innovative surf series that showcases progressive style, creativity and craftsmanship, both in and out of the water. Strict guidelines will enforce the use of traditional, single-fin logs without plugs. Additional prize money will be awarded for best shared wave, encouraging surfers to ride the same wave with style and creativity, while honoring the gentleman’s rule of no interference.
The 2015 Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational is staged within the Vans US Open of Surfing, a nine-day event recognized as the largest professional sports competition and action sports festival in the world.
