The 2016 Cape Epic Prologue returned to the Winelands of Meerendal. It was a 26 km race against the clock with highly varied terrain including steep, technical climbs and twisty descents. One of the challenges the riders had to face was the single track climb “Stairway to Heaven” to the top of Dorstberg, a mountaintop boasting magnificent 360 degree views of world famous landmarks such as Table Mountain, Robben Island and Cape Point.
It was Karl Platt from Germany and Urs Huber from Switzerland who won the prologue in front of Rohrbach Nicola from Switzerland and Pfrommer Matthias from Germany. The Italian duo Porro Samuele and Ferraro Damiano ended up in third.
In the women’s category De Groot Robyn from South Africa and Stenerhag Jennie from Sweden had been the fastest.
